4th Annual Plywood Cup
Nineteen teams entered the 4th annual plywood cup held in Wascana Centre on July 1 as part of the Canada Day celebrations in the park. Each team paid a fee to enter the race and team members were required to raise pledges. Prizes were awarded to the three teams to finish the race across and back over Wascana Lake as well as to the top fund raising teams.
The race was won by a team from Casino Regina with a celebrity team captained by Luca Congi of the Saskatchewan Roughriders coming in second and Rogne Construction placed third. The top fundraising teams were Avanti Office Products, Affinity Credit Union and Casino Regina.
The fan's choice award was won by Clifton Associates, the Titanic award for the first boat to sink was won by a team from Meyers Norris Penny and the best dressed award was won by a team from Marcie's Cakes.
The event co-chairs, Mauro Montanini and Greg Hornung, estimate more than $115,000 has been raised since the first Plywood Cup event was held in 2005. Funds raised go to the Raise a Reader Foundation and the Pediatric wards at Regina's two hospitals through the Hospitals of Regina Foundation.
3rd Annual Plywood Cup
The third annual Plywood Cup was held July 1 in beautiful Wascana Park. 21 teams entered the race to build and row their creation across Wascana Lake. The event was viewed by an estimated 10,000 spectators. The winning team was PCL Construction Privateears and the top fund raising team was Avanti Office Products Aquaholics.
This event raised more than $36,000 for the Raise-a-Reader Foundation and the Hospitals of Regina Foundation with an over all amount raised of over $70,000 in 3 years.
1st & 2nd Annual Plywood Cup

The first ever Plywood Cup Challenge was held in Regina on Sunday July 24, 2005 during the Pile O'Bones day. This event took place in front of the Legislative building on the south shore of Wascana lake. The building of the boats started at 1 PM and the race took place at 3 PM.
The object of this event is for teams of four to build a boat with a limited amount of materials and time and have one member of the team race the boat out to a marker and back to shore.
All of the proceeds of this event went to the RaiseAReader program and the Pediatric Outpatient Unit at Regina General Hospital.
Nearly 15,000 people pack the banks of Wascana Lake to watch the 13 teams race their plywood boat from one side to the other.
The team from Rick's Custom Cabinets were able to successfully row their plywood boat across the lake to capture first place, winning the famous plywood cup trophy.
Thanks to everyone that participated and we hope to see you out again next year.
